Independence Day Celebrations

Independence Day Celebrations

15th August is a memorable day for every Indian. This is the day when India got freedom from the British
rule. The day is celebrated throughout India with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. You can hear patriotic
songs and see Indian National flags everywhere to mark the occasion. Key attractions of Independence Day are the flag hoisting ceremony and Prime Minister’s speech at Red Fort, New Delhi followed by parade and pageants showcasing events from the struggle for independence to the cultural traditions of the country.

Similar events take place in state capitals where the Chief Ministers of individual states unfurl the national flag, and parades and pageants follow.

Independence Day Celebrations in Schools

  • Schools and Colleges open up for a few hours in the morning to follow the tradition of hoisting the National Flag, singing the National Anthem, followed by parades, and sometimes even house competitions such as “patriotic song singing”, “skits on freedom fighters”, “folk dances from different states”, etc.
  • Younger kids are educated about the freedom struggle, and are encouraged to dress up in tri-color (saffron, white and green). Recitation competitions are held.
  • For elder kids, various competitions like Debates, etc. are held on topics like “India – before and after Independence”, “India – 65 years after Independence”, “India – 50 years from now”, and more.
