Outdoor games and activities

This is one of the best and most beneficial ways to keep kids occupied. It gives a natural vent to their energy. It is also great for their overall health, growth and mental fitness and alertness. Just make sure that they play in a safe environment. Playing cricket, football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, etc. and other activities like running, swimming, cycling, etc. are great for kids’ overall development.

Drawing and painting

Kids have a natural creative bent and when you provide them with a means to express it, they enjoy it thoroughly. Let them draw or paint their imaginations on paper or canvas with pencils, pens, brushes and even their hands, fingers, feet, etc. They will enjoy it wildly and you will be surprised by their immense creativity.

Creative kids in the age group of 5-10 also tend to enjoy making things with clay, and origami products.  YouTube videos do provide a lot of creative inspiration these days.. :)

Let the music play

Kids love music and their bodies naturally catch the rhythm of the musical beats. Let your kids play their favorite music and dance on its tune to their heart’s content. It keeps them fit and happy.

Playing musical instrument

This is a great way to keep your kid occupied while learning a wonderful new talent that can offer great delight to him as well as others. Give him choices and let him select the instrument of his liking such as guitar, piano, flute, tabla, sitar, etc. This is one talent that will keep him company and provide happiness at all times.

The forgotten art of reading

Today’s children read a lot less than the former generations. Reading improves imagination and visualization. It makes mind sharper and more focused. Teach you kids the art of reading books again by handing them some beautiful story books, preferably with lots of pictures in them. You may even narrate the story to them if you want to.

Let them write a story

The best way to make your kids write is to tell them to write a story out of their own imagination. You may provide some clues and prompts but let them use their creativity. No story is good or bad, better or worse. Every story is a unique expression and appreciate them for it.

Let the star be born

Children are natural performers. Let the star actor in them come to the front by letting them act on a storyline. Encourage them to write their own stories or mini-plays and act them out with their friends.

Fancy dress

Kids love to dress up in different outfits and mock elders in many ways. Help them enjoy this fun activity by allowing them to dress up in different costumes. They may choose characters from fairy tales, cartoons, comics or movies.

Scrapbook fun

Kids will enjoy creating a scrapbook using pictures and photographs of some recent event. Help them with finding the pictures, cutting and pasting them. Don’t put any brakes on their creativity though.

Take their help in chores

Why not? Kids love helping around at home if you go about it the proper way. Give them some incentive if necessary. Make chores into a kind of a team game and let your kids feel like important members of the team. You will be surprised by their enthusiasm and initiative and they will enjoy the tasks.
