26th January has a special significance for every Indian. It is the day when India became a truly sovereign nation with its own constitution. Although India was freed from the clutches of the British rule on 15th August 1947, it was on 26th January 1950 that India became a republic country and gained political powers and independent authority over all its affairs. It was a very proud moment for the entire nation as it marked the beginning of a new political journey for the country. Republic Day celebrations with great enthusiasmThe republic day is celebrated all over the nation with great enthusiasm and passion. It is a national celebration and every citizen of India proudly participates in it. The most important event of the day is the grand parade in New Delhi, the capital of India. The parade begins from the Raisina Hill and culminates at the India Gate. The parade is attended by all the highest officials of the Indian Government including the President, Prime Minister, Chiefs of the three Defense forces, various ministers and guests from other countries as well. Display of Nation’s strengthThe Indian national flag is hoisted by the President on the beats of the National anthem Jan-Gan-Man and the entire nation salutes the majestic symbol of free India, the Tricolor with the Ashok Chakra at the center. The event includes parades of the Indian army, navy, air-force and other defense forces along with an exciting exhibition of India’s defense power in the form of modern weapons, tanks, aircrafts, etc. There is also a very lively and colorful display of the rich Indian culture and traditions. It shows the astonishing diversity of the nation in its absolute glory. There are folk-dances performed by dancers and artists from various states. The show ends with a breathtaking flypast performed by the daredevils of the Indian Air Force. The extra-ordinary contributions of the soldiers who fought for the country bravely and sacrificed their lives on its altar are remembered and honored on this day by conferring them with various awards such as Param Veer Chakra, Kirti Chakra, etc. by the President of India. National HolidayThe republic day is celebrated all over the country and it is a national holiday for schools, colleges, offices, etc. People greet each other and all the barriers of religions, casts, socio-economic differences simply evaporate away like the morning dewdrops. The spirit of unity is strong and the atmosphere is filled with a feeling of patriotism. Newspapers and magazines are full of articles and features about the celebrations across the nation. Many television and radio shows are dedicated to the occasion. Patriotic songs are played on different channels and speeches of various political leaders, celebrities, etc. are aired throughout the day. India has always been one of the most resilient nations of the world and has maintained its freedom and solidarity in spite of intrusions by outside forces.
